AGM or GEL Solar Battery Better for Solar Power System
We shall introduce the battery properties in this article. The basic benefits and drawbacks of parallel and series circuits will be discussed in this paragraph.
We’ll discuss what an AGM battery is. What does GEL stand for? How should a solar power system choose its solar battery? What causes over discharging of a battery? How is the battery connected in series? What does a battery parallel connection look like? GEL or AGM?
What Is AGM Battery?
The term “VRLA AGM battery” refers to a lead-acid battery with valve regulation (VRLA) and absorbent glass mat (AGM) technology. This particular lead-acid battery is used to store energy.
Technical Features of AGM Battery Technology
Utilizing pressure-controlled vent valves and sealing with an epoxy compound special to the job.
To stop electrolyte acid from leaking or evaporating, it is absorbed in specific glass mat separators.
Can be used in any posture; no leaking. However, installing upside-down is not advised.
Using a recombination reaction to turn hydrogen and oxygen into water and stop them from leaving can keep the quantity of acid water constant.Without maintenance. Like a flooded battery, there is no need to add water.
Recombinant technology is used in the VRLA AGM battery. The battery’s negative plates absorb the oxygen that the positive plates produce. This inhibits the negative plates’ ability to produce hydrogen. Water is produced when oxygen and hydrogen combine again, keeping the battery’s electrolyte level constant. Water re-filling is never required.
The Advantage of AGM Battery in Application
Flexible installation
The AGM separator keeps the electrolyte stationary and absorbed in the glass mat. Any position or orientation can be used with the battery.
Extremely safe
Safety valves immediately release gas when excessive gas generation due to improper charging happens to prevent battery cracking.
Higher cycle performance and long standby life longer float charge life is provided by anti-corrosion lead-calcium alloy plate. AGM separator may simultaneously catch electrolyte and stop active components on positive plates from descending, which also makes deep discharge cycle performance improved.
Longer shelf life
Plates made of a special lead-calcium alloy have less self-discharge and last longer.
High rate performance
Low internal resistance enhances performance in high-rate applications by enabling larger discharging and charging currents.
What Is GEL Battery?
The VRLA GEL battery uses the Gel electrolyte cell technology and is a valve-regulated lead-acid battery (VRLA). This particular lead-acid battery is used to store energy.
Gel is used in gel batteries in place of liquid acid as the electrolyte. Typically, pyrogenic silica is uniformly dispersed in diluted sulfuric acid to create gel. A type of extremely well-dispersed SiO powder known as pyrogenic silica may absorb an acidic liquid up to ten times its weight and then gel. The agglomerates are attaching to one another as a network to retain the liquid within and eventually transform into gel structures due to the thixotropic nature of gel. The electrolytes in the gel battery are solid between the negative and positive plates and do not contain any liquid.
Gel Battery Technology’s Technical Features
Gel is used as the electrolyte. Plate group assembly does not require severe compress, hence plate thickness precision is not crucial.
More electrolytes are necessary for better interaction with the plates, active ingredients, and container walls, which lowers the temperature of the battery and heat dissipation.

Longer Lifespan in Extreme Weather
Gel cell electrolyte keeps batteries operating at peak efficiency in harsh weather because it prevents electrolyte from freezing in the cold or evaporating in the heat. It is extremely safe because safety valves immediately release gas when excessive gas generation due to improper charging happens to stop the battery from cracking.
